From the Vatican to the Colosseum

Rome wasn't built in a day, but we sure tried to see most of it in a day! :)

Setting out on our 12 hour walking tour. Camden and Emma strolling along the wall of the Vatican City on our way to the Vatican Museum.
Emma, Nana, and Camden in the courtyard
Wandering through one of the beautiful galleries
This scene played out many times in the museum: Listening to the audio tour and/or reading information from Rick Steve's tour book
 The amazing Sistine Chapel
Emma and Nana having some pizza and people watching in St. Peter's Square
 One happy boy!
Inside St. Peter's Basilica
Near the site of our proposal :)

We hoofed it across town and the kids were more than ready for a break at the Victor Emmanuel Monument
We joined a fantastic tour of the Colosseum

 Walking towards Palatine Hill
As our tour guide was filling us in on the beginning of Rome, Camden took a little rest in the grass.
The end of a wonderful anniversary trip!

A First Class Ferry Trip and Rome!

On Wednesday we said arrivederci to Sardinia and boarded a ferry back to the mainland. The kids were excited when they saw the huge Looney Tunes ship docked in the Olbia Port and ecstatic when they realized it was our ferry!
Now this is traveling!  It was a fast 5 hour trip for Emma and Camden (but could have gone quicker for this queasy passenger).

We drove to Rome and settled into our apartment near the Vatican City.  Then it was off to site see for a few hours.
In front of Saint Angelo's Castle.
What motivates the Kasparek kids to keep moving?!
A GIANT donut! :)
Mom and I in the Piazza Navona
 Fountain of the Four Rivers
Chris and Emma taking a break while we shopped.
 Inside the Pantheon
Throwing 3 coins into Trevi Fountain

At the top of the Spanish Steps

We were beyond famished and found this little restaurant with an opera singer and accordion player to entertain us during dinner.  It was packed and the waiter brought this baby seat for Camden to sit in. :)
 Saint Peter's Basilica
A stop for dessert at the famous Old Bridge Gelateria

Return to La Maddalena (Part 3)

Our last day in Sardinia...

Emma's wish list: play at the beach
Everyone's wish list:  eat gelato

Another morning treat at La Vecchia Fonte
Emma, Camden, and Nana walking through Palau
 Hiking up to Bear Rock
 Magnificent views from the top!

After another lunch at the Cristal Bar, we stopped for some gelato in the piazza
